Weird Confession

A few minutes ago I grabbed a small handful of M&Ms from the giant bag in the pantry as an afternoon pick-me-up… (sarcastic) thanks to Sergeant Handsome for putting that in there, by the way. As I was eating them, I thought about this weird thing I do whenever I eat the delicious candy-coated chocolates.

 handful-of-candy, color-sort-candy

I prefer to eat my M&Ms with an even mix of colors in each bite. As in I’d rather have 1 green, 1 red, and 1 blue than have 2 blues and a green. Yes, this is crazeballs. No, I do not need to do this in order to eat them. But I find myself sorting through them, especially if I don’t have many, to make sure that the colors get distributed evenly in each bite.

Now you all know that I’m crazy.

Please tell me that I’m not the only person that finds themselves sorting through their candy. Do you eat all of one color first? Just eat them without regard to color? Help me feel less alone in this world of color-sorted candy!

  1. Love it! You’re not alone — I’m particular about getting the “perfect bite” when I’m eating something that has multiple components.

  2. I sort my M&Ms by color and eat all of one color at a time, one by one. Usually starting with the smallest quantity color, and going up. I don’t *have* to do this either, it’s just habit. :)

  3. I like to eat even amount of each color too! We have an m&m dispenser that I got in NY at the m&m store… and we keep it filled with peanut m&m´s… the kids get to pull the dispenser as a prize sometimes… but when I pull it, if 2 of the same color come out, I put one back in the dispenser and pull again to get a different color… sooo yeah! you´re not the only crazeballs m&m eater… lol

  4. Not alone. I prefer Skittles or Sixlets. But, all candies must be organized. Otherwise the world might spin off its axis.

  5. I do the perfect bite thing when I’m eating. I have to have the same mixture every bite all through the meal. When I eat M&Ms though, I eat them by color and by number and if one doesn’t have a match, I eat it first or last. So if there’s one green, three blue, two orange I’ll do green, orange, then blue.
Yep. I am that crazy with my candies.

  6. You guys are making me feel soooo much better about myself and my candy eating compulsions. I’m glad we can all keep the universe in line with our own particular method of sorting/eating colored candies.

  7. You’re not alone. I sort into matching pairs, eat the odd extras first, and then eat each pair together. I don’t know whether I’m relieved or disturbed to confess it, but your post made me smile. :)

  8. It isn’t absolutely necessary, but I’m definitely an M&M segregationist.
